THE FINAL CHAPTER IN LUCKY’S JOURNEY WITH LYMPHOMA CANCER

It has been some days now that our beloved Lucky’s Heart stopped beating . I am finally ready to share my final thoughts about this short and tragic Journey. I have had much time to think back and look at what happened in those 9 weeks of Lucky’s battle with Lymphoma. Had I known then what I know now, I may have done many things very different and some things not at all. This was my first encounter with such a deadly cancer. I have had many dogs in my life and was never aware of how common this particular cancer is in dogs. I...

MEETING OUR NEW VET TODAY – JOURNEY WITH LUCKY

We finally met with the Oncologist and started a new protocol. I am once again encouraged and hopeful we can beat this. Lucky received her chemo treatment and we went home.  Lucky had a couple of downward days. After the Chemo on Monday Lucky was pretty lethargic and refused to eat again on Tuesday. Somewhat expected after chemo but concerning since the eating has declined since Saturday and she has lost weight. She doesn’t seem to be excited about any food I offer. A little bite of chicken here, a little bite of yogurt there, that’s about it. Concerned, I called...

LUCKY IS RECEIVING UNPLANNED RESCUE CHEMOTHERAPY TREATMENT – JOURNEY WITH LUCKY

After our Check up yesterday we went home very disappointed at Lucky’s non responsiveness to the last Chemo Drug. After an ultrasound it got confirmed that not only her Lymph Nodes that are visible on the abdomen are enlarged but that she also has enlarged sublumbar nodes again. She is feeling good and eating well and her appearance is very deceptive. We were eagerly waiting for our appointment tomorrow at the Oncologist Clinic, but after calling in this morning I found out that the vet we were supposed to see is not a Board Certified Oncologist. I insisted to be rescheduled...

UNEXPECTED RESPONSE TO CHEMOTHERAPY TREATMENT 5 – LUCKY’S JOURNEY

Lucky went in for her 5th Chemotherapy Treatment on 9-22-2015. This was a treatment given over 1 hour and she had to be sedated throughout the treatment. Sleeping through the treatment allows for very slow, intravenous administration of this drug and Lucky did not have to deal with the nausea associated with this treatment. She received Vincristine, the drug she received in Treatment 3. She woke up fine just before the treatment was complete and when I picked her up she was very chipper, energetic and happy to see me. If I would have not known she had treatment, I can’t...

LUCKY DOING GREAT WITH LAST 3 CHEMO TREATMENTS – JOURNEY WITH LUCKY

Lucky continues to do well during the last 3 Weeks of Chemotherapy Treatments. The Drugs seem to keep Lymph Nodes from swelling and Lucky’s response is very encouraging. The Drugs used in her protocol are being cycled and so far the treatment is successful and she is said to be in remission. Week 2 Drug was called Vincristine. Administered Intravenously, this drug has not caused any side effects in Lucky. She is doing great in her appointments and tolerates the treatments well. Potential Side Effects could be Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, drop in white blood cell count and...
